FAQ's File Preparation
What types of files can you use?
Simply Canvas prefers that you submit your images as jpegs when uploading your files. If you have a question about a file type, feel free to contact us for more information. Please make sure your file is under 15mb before uploading.
How do I need to prep my files for printing?
The first step is to set up your file correctly for printing. What ever your target size is on the front face of the canvas, you want to add an additional 4 inches for the height and the width. This will create a 2 inch border on each side for the wrap of the canvas.
Second, pull your guide lines from your rulers in Photoshop 2 inches from each edge. This will create your template for your target size. Anything inside the guides will be on the front face of the canvas; anything outside the lines will be the wrap of the canvas.
Third, drag your image into the template and adjust the image to the cropping of your choice. Use the guides for placement of your image.
For example, if you are ordering a 16x20, the file would need to be set up as a 20x24 at 100 dpi(ppi). File Preparation Videos
What size file do I need?
We need you to size your images to your target size at 100 dpi. Do not forget to add the additional 4 inches to create a 2 inch border on each side for the wrap of the canvas! Sizing File at 100 dpi Video
What size file do you need?
We need you to size your images at actual size at 100dpi. Please use our templates located in the login area for proper sizing. However, don't worry because we open every file in Photoshop to check size and dpi before printing. Your images will be safe with us!
Why 100 dpi?
The nature of printing on canvas with inkjet technology allows us to create extremely sharp prints from lower resolution files. We use the best RIP(Raster Image Processing) software for final output and sizing. 100 dpi files work perfect for both quality and workflow.
What file format should I submit?
We prefer a high level jpeg (Quality 12).
Will my image be pixilated?
Absolutely not! As long as we start with a clear image, we can make it as large as you like without pixilation. If your file is crisp going in, it will be crisp coming out, as long as the dpi is correct. We need your file to be sized at actual size at 100dpi (a 16x20 will be sized at 20x24 for a gallery wrap).
What type of adjustments do I need to make to my file(s) for canvas prints?
Treat your files as you would for your paper prints for your lab. If you do all your color correcting and adjustments yourself, by all means treat your files for Simply Canvas the same. If you normally have your lab do your adjustments, no fear! The artists' in the printing department will do your adjustments for you.
Can I do my own Color Correcting?
If you choose to color correct your own images we highly recommend downloading and previewing your images using our soft proofing profile on a correctly calibrated monitor. We do offer color correction at no additional cost. If you chose to have Simply Canvas correct your file, our trained printing experts will print for best possible color and density. Color and density is subjective and prints may appear different under varied lighting conditions. Reprints due to color and density will be reviewed on a per print basis and may, at our request, require a match paper print to be supplied to insure satisfaction.
Do I need to set up my file before ordering it in the Roes ordering software?
We highly suggest that you set up your files in Photoshop before ordering it in Roes. This way you can check to make sure that all of your files are set up properly.
If the frame is an 1 1/2", why do I need to add 2" on each side to my file?
We have you add 2 inches on each side because a 1/2" from each side will wrap the back of the frame where it is stapled and assembled.
Do we scan negatives?
To ensure a high level quality print, Simply Canvas only accepts digital files. If you wish to have your archived negatives printed on canvas, you would need to get a high-resolution scan done of your negatives before submitting your files to Simply Canvas. Contact your local lab for scanning service details.
If I order a split panel, how do I need to set up the file?
Setting up a split panel can be tricky. First, determine your overall target size for the front face of the canvas.
Second, decide how you want your image to be split. You can split your image into even panels or uneven panels. Once you have decided how many panels you want, pull guides at each dimension where the panel will split.
Third, remember to add an additional 4 inches to your height and width for the outside wrap of your image.
Fourth, pull guides two inches from each guide that you placed to split the image. Then crop each panel of the image using the adjusted guides.
Simply Canvas does offer a split image set-up service including a digital proof sent via email for a flat $25.00.
