Oahu, Hawaii…Pacific Palisades, California. Those of us here in the Midwest are green eyed with envy that Carol Kleinman is soaking up the warm sunshine while we call home the blistering cold. Mostly, however, we envy that she accidently uncovered what she believes to have been “The Heart of Paris.”
Last year, Carol found herself walking the streets of Paris, France and came across a soft sculpture of a heart in a window. Standing in front of the window, she took a peek through her lens and saw what looked to be a heart that contained veins and arteries. This was a result of the reflection the buildings across the street were causing off the window in front of the heart. Aha! “The Heart of Paris.”
“That’s what I do. I take photographs of reflections through glass. I look for the reality that is there that people don’t normally perceive,” Carol said. She further explained that there is a lively and mysterious quality to the photographs which she loves, as well as a layering effect.
Following her trip, Carol had a Gallery Showing featuring her window reflection photographs, including the “Heart of Paris.” A fitting way to show off her discovery of such a beautiful and rare image. However, we here at Simply Canvas are convinced that her sole reason behind the showing was to display her work on our canvas.
“I wanted to give the photographs more texture, quality and really just cross that line between photography and painting,” Carol said. She went on to explain that she knew having them printed on Canvas was the way to go. “I had heard of Simply Canvas before and it seemed like you were the people to use.” The match seemed to work as Carol had her most successful show ever. “It’s a wonderful combination the photography, painting and canvas,” she said.
The Gallery Showing, called “Click. Single Exposure.” showcased raw images that Simply Canvas took and blew up on gallery-wrapped canvases. “Bottom line, I don’t do Photoshop. I’m not very technically savvy,” she explained. Therefore, Carol Kleinman is the odd professional photographer out at Simply Canvas. “These images were single exposure taken through glass and on glass surfaces. No layering in Photoshop. My idea of photography mixed with Canvas is something I’m going to expand on,” she said.
Now, considering her husband said she invented a new art form as a result of all the success garnered with this idea, we’re even more envious of Carol Kleinman. However, she chose to display this so-called new art form on our canvas. So, we’ll toss our envy out the window.
