November 2007 Studio of the Month

Iman Woods

Simply Canvas is proud to announce the November Studio of the Month, Iman Woods.  Iman has not always been in photography, but she has had a passion for art ever since she can remember.  She started oil painting when she was in the sixth grade and has been an artist ever since.  About five years ago she became interested in photography and loves being able to use Photoshop to paint and enhance her images into works of art.

Iman said her inspiration comes from the work of classic pin-up artist Alberto Vargas.  She creates 1940’s-style pin-up art portraits of “real” women, using her original photography as the foundation of the painted images.  She has developed an art form called New Media Illustrative Photography, which means portraits are illustrated on canvas by a combination of both digital and traditional art.

Iman began using Simply Canvas to print her art on canvas when she heard her colleagues rave about the quality of the prints they ordered.  She was very pleased that each of her files were checked before, during and after they printed.  She had bad luck in the past with other labs, and she values the careful inspection of her prints.

Iman is thrilled with the overall product of the canvas.  She said the colors are gorgeous and the wraps are beautiful.  She said she values the time she saves by not having to seal or add hardware to the canvas once she receives it.  She was impressed when she sent a file and got an e-mail back with a possible problem, before it went to print.  It made her happy that she was able to resubmit the file rather than have to return an incorrect print.

Iman has been putting her 1940’s-style pin-up portraits to charitable use.  For the past six months, Iman has been putting together a calendar of fifteen cancer survivors made over into Hollywood starlets, “to celebrate hope and the beauty of life after cancer.”  One hundred percent of the proceeds of each calendar will go to breast cancer research at MD Anderson in Orlando.

Iman said the calendar is a beautiful project to work on. She was inspired to do this because she said when a woman is undergoing Chemotherapy, the last thing on her mind if feeling pretty.  She thought the project is the perfect way to celebrate the beauty of the survivors, and treat them like stars.

The project is on hold, for now.  Iman is in need of more sponsors to help put the calendar together.

The team at Simply Canvas looks forward to each and every one of Iman’s orders because every image she photographs, she turns into a work of art.  Iman makes the perfect Studio of the Month this holiday season because she is using her talent of art to help cancer patients.  Congratulations Iman for being Simply Canvas’ November Studio of the Month.
