Studio Profile

Studio of the Month: Picsee Studio, Kingsport, TN

Two years ago, three photographers met over lunch and collaborated on a new business venture: Picsee Studio, a photography studio focused on passion for life, relationships, emotion and creativity. Photographers Christy Steadman, Becky Jones and Jennifer Costella jumped in with both feet, hoping it would work. Two years later, it has more than worked. It’s completely taken off. As one of our highest volume customers in the past year, Picsee Studio’s same values that got them started in the business, is the sole reason why they’ve encountered so much success, so fast.

Picsee Studio attributes their success to their ability to create lasting relationships with their customers. Using social networking sites such as Facebook and their own studio blog, enabled them to establish a laid back relationship with their clients, making first meetings and consultations really easy and natural. “The best part is that our clients feel like they already know us before we come face to face. They get on the website, the blog and get used to who we are, how we speak, the definition behind what we shoot.”

They continue to build these relationships by paying close attention to detail and making each session unique. During the pre-session consultations for their shoots, Picsee Studio spends time scoping out lighting and walls colors, taking pictures of wall spaces and mocking up storyboards. And, they always photographic clients in familiar and comfortable settings where more emotional images are produced. “We create emotional images that speak to each individual or family. We do what they want to do that way we capture where they are in their life.”

This attention to detail and interest in their clients everyday life and way of expression, let’s Picsee Studio create products that are designed specifically to meet their client’s needs. “We’ll have five wall groupings prepared for them when they come into a selling session. It sets you apart in the industry where everybody has a digital camera and can take an image. We follow through to the end with art pieces that look great and showcase emotionally appealing images.”

One of those art pieces includes Simply Canvas Gallery-Wraps. “We started selling them immediately, as soon as we started. For us, we didn’t want to deal with framing on every order. We didn’t want our clients being satisfied with prints that may just sit and not get hung up.” Having found out about Simply Canvas at Digital Wedding Forum, they went on to explain how canvas gives their clients a ready to hang product that can be easily switched out or moved over time and it’s easy to take care of. All of these are used as selling points in their client’s sessions.

The photographers at Picsee Studio also display an enthusiastic and trusting attitude in the product itself, continuing to shoot with a canvas print in mind, pushing them in selling sessions and showcasing them in their studio. They explained that standard sizes don’t work for them and therefore love that SC can do any size. “We can pose really well in camera and well, images just look better on canvas from the color to the texture. And of course, you sell what you show.” Picsee studio pre-sells the images on their blog with a sneak peak. And, has canvases hung individually and as groupings for their clients to see.

With their main focuses on building lasting relationships with their clients, paying close attention to detail, creating one of a kind shoots and offering a product they believe in to their clients, Picsee Studio, in just a few short years, has reached a new level of success. With 2010 almost booked, plans of branding themselves in the near future and opening a new studio space, it’s no wonder Picsee Studio was one of our top customers this past year. Congratulations!
